OUR MISSIONS
ULU Youth Mentorship Program
“It takes a village to raise a child”- African Proverb
In our mentorship program, we have mentors, University students, high school students as well as other parents in the community that help black children and youth with necessary education and guidance so they feel supported in the community. Through our program, we tutor, coach sports, mentor and develop “older brother/sister” relationships with the youth in the community. This program is aimed to make marginalized youth feel supported in any way they might feel they need support to optimize their individual growth and growth of their communities.
Youth Engagement and Education Sessions
We host sessions to empower youth self-esteem and encourage their professional and personal growth. We host sessions both in person and virtually. We examine topics such as: Black history where they are presented in a positive light. We exhibit that people resembling themselves are kings, inventors, leaders and far achieving, beyond the perpetuated history where their history begins and ends with slavery. We understand that Representation affects imagination so if they see people that look like them represented in a positive way, they will begin to see themselves in a positive narrative.
Allyship Training for Partners
In addition, we host workshops at high schools, universities as well as at institutions. Our workshops focus on having conversations that are seen as taboo by the general public. However, we think these tough conversations are worth having in order to better people's experiences and create a more fitting environment for diverse workers and students.
