LITHA NCANISA

Litha Ncanisa, born and raised in the township of Khayelitsha, in Cape Town, South Africa. In order to ensure that he was not involved in violence or crime that people were becoming succumbed to in his community, his parents made sure he was involved into sport, where he came across karate, soccer, cricket and eventually basketball, which was the same sport that gave him the opportunity to come to Canada for school.

He completed 3 years of high school in British Columba (B.C) and after graduation he embarked on a Law and Justice program at Laurentian University as his undergraduate. Litha has currently completed his four year undergraduate degree in Law and Justice, with a minor in Indigenous Studies at Laurentian University. Litha is a member of the Laurentian Men’s Varsity Basketball team.

Litha is very passionate about the work of humanity, justice and equity as he believes he is where he is in life because a lot of historical figures had given up their freedom, lives and comfort such as: Malcolm X, Martin Luther King , Steve Biko, Chris Hani and more.  So, that he can wield and use the privileges he has today. So, a young black man like himself can have the choice to attend a university. Litha’s focus is trying to enhance the situations of those that are coming after him because he believes that policies in society, discrimination and racism still needs to be challenged today through conversations and education.
